I just finished Tapestry by Karen Ranney and am still wiping the tears from my eyes. Wow...what an amazing story of love and loss! This was not a lighthearted read. Be prepared to be swept up in this very emotional tale with moments that are just heart wrenching. The characters are so well crafted and multi-dimensional that you just get completely caught up in their lives. The torture and the passion are equally intense so that you are on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. When the going got rough it was painful beyond belief and when things became passionate, the sexual heat was off the charts. This was a book of extremes that I became swept up in and eagerly kept turning the pages to find out what happens next. I would 100% recommend this book, but don't forget the tissues!

This is without a doubt one of the best beauty and the beast historical romance books I've ever read. Ranney's Tapestry had me riveted from beginning to end. I laughed out loud, cried, and loved along with her superb characters. My only regret is that the book had to end.

Dixon Alexander Weston, Earl of Cardiff, is a typical regency *beast* hero. He was a charming and handsome man before he went off to war. But Alex returned changed, physically (extremely scarred) and mentally. No longer was he part of the outside world. The new brooding and pessimistic Alex now secludes himself at Heddon Hall, accepting no visitors nor correspondences. Lady Laura Blake on the other hand is a vibrant young woman. A woman who has loved her neighbor Alex for years. And when he returns from the war and refuses contact -Laura takes matters into her own hands.

Get this book! You won't be sorry you read Tapestry. Just magical historical romance thats highly unpredictable. Its that unpredictable part that had me at first uncomfortable with certain parts of the book (very sad). But I know that ultimately I wouldn't have loved the book as much if Alex and Laura hadn't gone through those trails (Don't worry they're not ridiculous misunderstandings). Just made their love all the more sweeter in the end. *sigh* ~dreamy expression~ Another shelf keeper to add to my collection.

This book is a treasure. I cannot believe that this was a first publication for the author. It is that good and completely different from almost everything else I've read. It reminded me of Judith McNaught's works or possibly JM was influenced by Ranney.

Sad, almost gut wrenching, but hopeful in its bittersweet happy ending. Highly recommended
A True Beauty and the Beast retelling with a twist, Tapestry is a tale of unconditional love. This book is not perfect but it is good with sweet romantic interludes and emotional angst.

Alexander Weston, the Earl of Cardiff was severely injured in the war, so disfigured that he wears a mask to hide his ugly burns and scars. He is reclusive, lonely and depressed.

Laura Blake has adored Alex for years and when he returns from the war and does not seek her out she finds a way to infiltrate his home. She becomes a servant and within a week's time has captured the attention of Alex, but he has no idea of her identity.

Laura is a very likable character, she is stalwart and sincere and above all she is loving, Alex's scars do not matter to her at all. She truly looks beyond them to the amazing man he can be. Her moments with him are wonderfully written, especially the intimate scenes these two share. For Laura, desire and commitment goes far beyond the physical aspect.

Alex is hesitant around Laura and this is understandable, he feels his scars are a barrier to true intimacy. Laura baffles him but also makes him feel loved.

This story has several unexpected events and quite frankly, I was not in love with some of the tale, particularly when the couple is apart the story slows down. Laura almost feels like a different character by the end of the book, she has matured but also hardened a little too. Alex, on the other hand, is quite the hero and his kind unselfish gestures really are a delight.
